Toad Rock, Mount Abu Like Never Before: Aditya

| December 5, 2015 |

The subject in this picture is the famous & iconic “Toad Rock” at Mount Abu. Before planning our visit,we had heard a lot about this place & had also seen many pictures of it on the web. Thus, even before we visited Abu, I knew that I had to capture at least 1 frame of this sight. Unfortunately, due to time constraints & other reasons, we couldn’t trek/hike all the way up to the rock as we had hoped.

But that didn’t stop me from clicking at least 1 picture of the Toad Rock, and this is one of the best shots from my collection. We shot this picture on the last day of our trip, while we were on the way back from the Sunset Point. Unfortunately, due to the lateness of the hour I couldn’t capture any sunlight,or natural lighting with the rock as I had intended. I did miss the golden shade which the sunlight would have created upon the entire frame.

However apart from that, this picture is in every aspect the way I wanted it to be, so no complaints!. The main reason’s behind especially clicking shots of this rock was because I had heard so much about it, and also because it was one of the most unique & eye-catching structures I had ever seen. My photo series on Mount Abu would have surely been incomplete without a sot of this structure.

Technique and Camera Settings

I used in-camera HDR in this picture, to provide more emphasis & detail to the picture. I wanted to highlight & clearly define the structure and its uniqueness, for which I felt that HDR would be the best option for me. Framing & composition wise, the overall image was looking a bit empty & dull to me. That was why I waited a while, so that I could also capture some of the trekkers in the picture. That small bit added an interesting touch to this picture, which I feel has made it look better. There was very less lighting as the natural light was fading away quickly. Thus, to ensure less of camera blur, I chose a faster shutter speed & a higher ISO.
