Summary

The following article is written by Dr. A Shyamala who has settled in Mount Abu since 2 years and fall in love with only hill station of Rajasthan. She has beautifully shared an article about her feelings for this beautiful place, MUST READ.

It was about 2 years since I first set foot on Mount Abu.
We had been living in Hyderabad for almost 30 years.
My children were married and settled in life.
I had just retired from service, and was looking forward to some restful times ahead.
Shifting base from Hyderabad was quite inconceivable as we were so firmly rooted in the place.
Then, one fine day, my husband told me that he was keen to relocate elsewhere.
He had a few offers which he was seriously considering. Would I mind?
I was taken aback, to put it mildly. Then I thought, why not?
After all, there was nothing to keep us tied to Hyderabad.
Yes, the family, both immediate and extended, was mostly there.

But they were all busy with their own lives. And we could always visit them, whenever we wanted to. So, we decided to give it a try. But first, we wanted to visit the different places to get a feel of the place we might ultimately decide to live in.

We chalked out a plan for travel, which included Vikarabad, Jodhpur, and finally Mount Abu.
Mount Abu was the last destination for two reasons.
Firstly, we had more or less made up our minds that it is too far flung and inaccessible for our liking. However, we decided to complete the circuit and go anyway.
Secondly, because it was a tourist spot, we wanted to combine pleasure with business and take it easy for a couple of days, before we went back to our daily routine back home.

It was a 6 hour drive from Jodhpur. The road was quite good for the most part. Yet, we were tired by the time we reached Abu Road.
The narrow and congested roads reinforced our decision against shifting to Mount Abu.
Then, we turned on to the winding Ghat road which leads to Mount Abu from Abu Road, and something magical happened.

The Aravali Mountains rose before our eyes in all the splendour and majesty of the range.
It was a few weeks into the rainy season. The mountains were covered in greenery without a gap, and the temperatures started getting cooler.

I was quite taken in by the beauty of the surroundings, and started liking the place in spite of myself.
In fact, thinking back, I realize it was love at first site! And the affair continues to this day.
Of course, the neatly maintained hospital, the ready welcoming smiles on the faces of people, the graciousness of the Director Dr. Midha, the very positive vibes that we felt when we were here, and the quaintness of the town, all contributed to some extent in tilting our decision in its favor.

That night, before we retired to bed, I said to my husband,” So this is it?”, to which he replied with a contented smile, and the decision was made.
Within 2 months, we wound up our establishment in Hyderabad, and shifted to Mount Abu. We have not regretted the decision ever since.
